The Wounded Warrior Experience – Thursday, November 4 – US Navy Memorial

On Thursday evening, a reception will be held at the United States Navy Memorial. This reception will feature a panel discussion by Wounded Warriors, wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, in the U.S. Navy Memorial’s Arleigh Burke Theater (Reception at 6:00, panel at 7:00 – times tentative)

Note: Bus transportation available from Renaissance Hotel to Navy Memorial – departs 5:30 PM, time tentative – Returns following event.

Baseball Heroes of World War II – Friday, November 5 – Presidents Club at Nationals Park, home of MLB’s Washington Nationals

Friday evening a reception will be held at the exclusive Presidents Club at Nationals Park in Washington, DC in honor of Major League Baseball players, who fought in World War II. In attendance as special guests will be Wounded Warriors from Walter Reed Army Medical Center and National Naval Medical Center.

Currently confirmed MLB players are: Jerry Coleman, Bob Feller and Lou Brissie.

MLB Hall of Famer and World War II vet Monte Irvin, and  former MLB player and World War II vet Lou Brissie with Wounded Warriors from Walter Reed Memorial Hospital at a reception honoring baseball players who were also WWII heroes at the 2008 conference. Brissie's leg was shattered into 30 pieces when he was wounded in Italy. Determined to make it to the big leagues, Brissie returned to the States, undergoing 23 operations and hours of rehab before his debut with the Philadelphia A's.
