Ned and Nedda Thomas

“Hump Pilot” – Army Air Force veteran Ned Thomas was among the soldiers tasked with flying supplies to the Nationalist Chinese in the China-Burma-India theater of World War II. The mission was a massive airlift that required pilots to fly over the Himalayas, and was nicknamed “The Hump.” Nedda Thomas tells the story of her father’s service and the harrowing mission in her book, Hump Pilot: Defying Death Flying the Himalayas During World War II.
